Netherlands - Hong Kong Friendship Dinner
With special guests: HE Tan Jian, Ambassador of the People's Republic of China to the Kingdom of the Netherlands, Mr Peter Potman, Acting Director General Foreign Economic Relations of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ms Roos Verweij, Vice Mayor of the City of Rotterdam and Mr Eddie Cheung, Special Representative for Hong Kong Economic and Trade Affairs to the European Union.
The Netherlands and Hong Kong have been trading partners since 1842, when the ledgers of the Port of Hong Kong listed the arrival of 10 ships from the low countries.
In 1857, Mr A.W.P. Kup was appointed to serve as the first Dutch Consul General the Kingdom of the Netherlands in Hong Kong. Today, the 36th Consul General in Hong Kong is Mr Arjen van den Berg.
Major Dutch companies, including banks, shipping lines, airlines, trading companies and hundreds of individual entrepreneurs established offices in Hong Kong over the years. Some, like Friesland Campina, have been there for more than 100 years.
